I recently blogged about little Smith McRae, the 6-month old son of my co-worker/friend. He's been pretty sick since birth and in dire need of a liver transplant. Smith's condition has been worsening and still no donor match was coming available so the surgeons started the process for a living donor from Smith's mom. Living donors aren't the best option because then you're dealing with two patients and potential complications rather that just one.
HOWEVER, this morning at 7:00am the McRae family got the call that a liver became available in the middle of the night AND it's a match.
Blayne (my co-worker) and his nearly two-year old son Raz quickly packed this morning and were headed back to Houston for the transplant surgery which was to begin around 10:00am. From what I understand, this surgery takes SEVERAL hours so it will be a long and anxious day for those closest to Smith.
Our family is desperately praying that all goes well and the "new" liver will take. Our thoughts and prayers are also with the donor's family that lost their child in the middle of the night.
Here's a picture of Smith from yesterday. His yellowish skin color and eyes will hopefully be much whiter by the next time I make a post.

It is so hard to pray for something that will give soneone else heartache. We are so happy for Smith and his family. We hope that all goes well.
