Brent turned 30 recently and we celebrated!

The last night of his 29th year
On July 26th I started a little project entitled "30 Days Until You're 30".  Each day for 30 days I left a little note card in Brent's car telling him a reason why I loved him.  After the first week, I thought this project would become difficult as the days ticked away and the "reasons" became hard to come by.  However, I found the exact opposite.  As we entered the final week leading up to his birthday, I realized I still had many more reasons than days left to tell him what I loved about him.

We celebrated his actual birthday on Friday, August 24th with a great dinner and Temple Session.  We had a few friends over later that night to celebrate with an Ice Cream Cake!  It was a great and relaxing evening together.  AND, it was just enough to throw him off for the real surprise that I had been planning for the past couple of months.

I love a great party and this was the best reason for me to put my organizational and party planning skills to the test.  We had several family members arriving in town 1 week after his birthday for Dakota's baptism so I strategically scheduled the "surprise" party around this weekend.  However, HURRICANE ISSAC also strategically planned to arrive around this time which put a big damper (literally) on our plans and weekend.  In the end, it worked out really well EXCEPT Mark and Craig (two of Brent's older 3 brothers) and his parents could not make it because their flights were all cancelled.  We were devastated initially, but realized there was nothing that could be done.  We made the best of the weekend and really had a great time with the family that was able to be here.

Brent's AMAZING RACE (similar to the show The Amazing Race) kicked off at 8:00pm on LSU's campus at the Institute Building.  The first challenge took place there and then a clue was given to each subsequent pit stops in which teams had to complete challenges throughout the course of the race.

The pit stops included:
1) Greek Theatre
2) Indian Mounds
3) Tiger Cage
4) Belle of Baton Rouge
5) Shaw Center for the Arts
6) Coffee Call (beignets and hot chocolate!)
7) Ritter Maher Architects (Finish Line and After Party!)

This party consisted of A LOT of planning, but all totally worth the excitement and fun!  Thank you especially to my friends Helen Baum and Sarah Baesler for helping me plan and carry this out.  More pictures should be posted soon from this event as I receive them from others.
